IVF (IN VITRO FERTILIZATION)
In vitro is a latin word which means “in glass”. IVF (In VItro Fertilization) is a fertility treatment where egg and sperm are retrieved and fertilized in a lab in glass. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing egg or eggs from their ovaries and letting a man’s sperm fertilize them in a culture medium in a laboratory. After the fertilized egg undergoes embryo culture for 2–6 days, it is transferred by catheter into the uterus, with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.
IUI (INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION)
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) also known as artificial insemination is a fertility treatment in which sperm is inserted into the uterus to increase the chances of conception. With IUI, the sperm are inserted around the time an ovary releases one or more eggs. The hoped-for outcome is for the sperm and egg to unite in the fallopian tube, which connects the uterus to the ovaries. If this happens, it leads to pregnancy.
